Happy Father’s Day!

Father’s Day is still a week away but as early as today however, my brother and brother in law have received messages of greetings from various friends.. The reason for the confusion maybe because in other countries, they celebrate it every 2nd Sunday of June.

Based on my readings, there are even countries that celebrate it in a totally different month and date. Thailand for instance celebrate Father’s Day during the birthday of their King. So whoever is the current King, his birthday becomes the Father’s Day celebration. In Taiwan, it is celebrated on August 8. In Russia, it’s on February 23. In Australia, it is every 1st Sunday of September. In the Philippines, we celebrate it on the 3rd Sunday of June along with the majority of other countries.

It’s common knowledge that it was the idea of a woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane, Washington that started this all.

Father’s Day celebration was born in memory and gratitude of a daughter who thought that her father and all good fathers should be honored with a special day just like we honor our mothers on Mother’s Day. She wanted to honor her father William Jackson Smart who raised her as a single Dad after her mother died. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Since her father was born in June, then she chose to hold the first Father’s Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910. In 1972, President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance of Father’s Day to be held on the third Sunday of June.

In our family, it has been a tradition to make both Father and Mother’s Day a bit special. However last year’s celebration (2008) was a sad one for me. It was the first year that we were not able to celebrate it with my Dad as he passed away August 2007. I just blogged about it at http://augustaffair.blogsome.com/2008/07/08/fathers-day/.

As early as last week, I have been hunting around for little gifts that I can give to the “Fathers” in my family. I will continue my hunt this week and will post the picture of whatever I will find in my next post.

To all the kids, I suggest that you strive to make this day a special one for your fathers. Time is really fleeting. We will never know how much time we still have so let us make the most out of it.

To all the fathers “Happy Father’s Day”.

Effective Ad site!

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

I have been a member of http://www.sulit.com.ph/ref=nov1127for quite a while. It has been a good venue for me to advertise my product and a good site for me to surf when I am looking for something. In fact when I am bored, I just log in to the site and browse for just about anything.

Most recently, the trucks I have been advertising on the site got sold. They actually got sold to a previously interested buyer just near our place. However, prior to that, I have been receiving text messages and email messages asking me about it. In fact even after removing the ads, I still got text messages asking me if I am going to sell another one. This just goes to show that my posting really worked. Now I can confidently put future advertisements on this site knowing that it will be read by many and will be able to reach out a wider set of audience.

H1N1 Virus!

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Cover your nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Visit www.cdc.gov/h1n1 for more information.

I have just been sent a text message by a friend that a case of H1N1 virus has been confirmed to have reached CDO. My immediate reaction was to warn the members of my family not to mingle with other people as much as possible. This means no malling, no gallivanting, and if possible no going out of the house.

Up until two days ago, this H1N1 thing has never really bothered me. I have watched the news but up until then, I thought that this can only happen in other places. Now it has spread here, and I fear for the health of every member of my family. My Mom is so much into the “vitamins thing” so at least I can rest easy on her. My two kids on the other hand have to be constantly reminded to take their vitamins and in fact I have to resort to nagging to make them take it.

I, myself is not into taking so much vitamins even though I need it the most with the graveyard shift and all, but I am into eating vegetables so I should rest easy on that score as well.

As of this writing, I am currently browsing for more information regarding this virus and how it can be prevented. Here are some of the preventive measures:

• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

• Stay home if you get sick. It is recommended that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

I do not know if its psychological, but I am starting to feel cold right now. It is as if I am coming up with a cold. I will post more information about the virus in the days to follow, but right now I need to take my medicine and rest. Till next post then . :)
